James M. Goodman

James M. Goodman has garnered his expertise of and passion for the art world over thirty years of wide-ranging experience.  As president of two auction galleries, he has handled such notable estates as those of Judy Garland, Mary Pickford,  E.F. Hutton, and Jascha Heifetz.

A founding member of the International Society of Appraisers, Southern California Chapter, Mr. Goodman served as both president and vice-president, and was the recipient of ISA’s Distinguished Service Award.  He co-founded International Network of Appraisers, is regularly called upon as an expert witness and to appraise major collections and estates.

 

As an art consultant, he has counseled and acquired art for major international collections.  As a fine art appraiser and expert witness,  Mr. Goodman is often called upon by such organizations as the FBI,  IRS and The Department of Justice from which he  holds letters of recommendation. (enclosed) In 2000, Mr. Goodman acted as lead appraiser on behalf of The Department of Justice in the Richard Nixon Presidential papers case, that was successfully argued in Judge Penn’s court in the District of Columbia.

Mr. Goodman established current and future earnings for  major motion pictures for the Cecil B. DeMille Estate. Mr. Goodman also established Fair Market Rental Value for works of import loaned to businesses and/or private estates.

 

In addition to the above activities, Mr. Goodman is the past Senior Art Columnist for The Design Magazine for which he wrote a monthly art column.

Starting in 1989, Mr. Goodman became active as a youth basketball coach at Westwood Recreation Complex, during which time he has remained active as a coach and member of the Park Advisory Board. In 2007, he helped form and remains President of The Friends of West Los Angeles which is a non-profit entity that funds libraries, schools, fire stations, parks and recreation centers and the West Los Angeles Police Department. 

2009 was a landmark year for The Friends of West Los Angeles as it initiated the first Martin Luther King, Jr. Games between two diverse recreation centers. The result garnered “Park of the Year” award for both participating parks. The Games has grown exponentially each year since then. We are now partnered with The Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Foundation, Los Angeles Sparks and Wells Fargo.
